If people suffering from dementia and their caring relatives are experiencing more and more respect, tolerance and understanding, and if they are being integrated more and more into society, this is also thanks to the work of Alzheimer Selbsthilfe e.V.
Gabriela Zander-Schneider and Wolfgang J. Schneider founded this non-profit organisation, which is independent of associations and providers, in 2001 and have been active as board members from the beginning until today.
Gabriela Zander-Schneider and Wolfgang J. Schneider have received several awards for their social commitment to removing the taboos surrounding the topics of Alzheimer’s and dementia in the public sphere, drawing attention to the burdens of those affected and those caring for them, and achieving improvements in care as well as a thorough relief for those caring for them.
Gabriela Zander-Schneider was awarded the Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 2010, and Wolfgang J. Schneider was most recently awarded the Medal of Merit of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 2014.
